In 1979, disco outfit, Nostromo, released this discofied version of the Alien theme. Masterful.
Julie Driscoll’s version of “Season of the Witch” from 1968 is the hippiest, trippiest version I have ever seen/heard.
I’m a One Track Lover!
The best French Space/Glam/Rock/Disco number you’ll see all day.
Jim Morrison tried hard but he never quite made it in being as genuinely enigmatic as Scott Walker. Covering Jacques Brel always gives you the upper hand.
It’s Friday night and I’m staying in. The party’s here though, soundtracked by Space’s Magic Fly! I reckon Daft Punk really liked this and the video.
Patrick Wolf’s back. “The City” is actually shot on a beach, looks dead fun. After a few listens I can safely say this one is a bit of a sticker especially THE SAX!
This Mortal Coil - Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust
Released on a 12” alongside the ethereal Song to the Siren, this is an often overlooked piece from the experimental supergroup of sorts. The marriage of Modern English’s driving theme and Liz Fraser’s wraith-like vocals is consummated by Ivo’s studio mastery.
I can’t believe I have only just found out about the “Kid 17” concept of Radiohead’s Kid A. Take any from the album, press play, wait 17 seconds and start playing the same song again over the one playing. Continue and you get great results! Of course, given the sampled nature of the album this could be just pot luck but the sound of the album is just great.
Rarely, a voice has a certain quality which makes it sound like it’s being sung from beyond the grave. Basho has that, I love this song.
